How to Prepare Your Pool for Stormy Weather

Protect your pool and backyard before inclement weather strikes with these expert tips from Pinch A Penny:

  1. Trim Trees & Shrubs
Cut back overhanging branches and foliage to reduce debris and minimize damage to screens or equipment.

  2. Store Loose Items
Secure or stow away pool toys, umbrellas, furniture, and any lightweight objects that could become projectiles.

  3. Remove Solar Blankets & Covers
Take off solar covers, reels, and safety blankets to prevent wind damage or water accumulation.

  4. Maintain Child Safety
Ensure gates and alarms are functioning, and keep children away from the pool area during severe weather.

  5. Check Electrical Equipment
Turn off and, if possible, disconnect pool pumps, heaters, and lighting at the breaker panel to protect against power surges.

  6. Monitor Water Levels
Keep your pool at its normal level—neither overfilled nor drained—to prevent structural stress from heavy rainfall.
