Pool Safety for Pets
Pet safety around pools is essential. APEX Pavers & Pools shares tips to protect your furry friends — from swim training to securing your backyard.
Pool Safety Tips for Your Pets
At APEX Pavers & Pools, we care about the entire family — and that includes your furry companions. Did you know that over 5,000 pets drown each year in backyard pools? Whether you’re building a new pool or already have one, it’s essential to create a safe environment for your pet.
Here are key tips (inspired by Lyon Financial) to help protect your pets around the pool:
1. Know if Your Dog Can Swim
Not all breeds are natural swimmers. Introduce your dog to water slowly and never assume they can swim without support.
2. Watch for Signs of Fatigue
Dogs can become tired quickly. Rear-end sinking, wide eyes, or frantic swimming are signs they may be struggling.
3. Avoid Overheating
Limit pool activity between 10 AM and 4 PM, and always provide shade and water to prevent dehydration.
4. Teach Pool Exits
Show your pet where the steps or exit points are, and ensure they can get out of the water without help.
5. Secure the Pool Area
Install pet-friendly fences, alarms, or covers to prevent unsupervised access when the pool is not in use.
6. Learn Pet CPR
Being prepared for emergencies with basic pet CPR knowledge could save your pet’s life.
